Many wonderful stories and reviews have been written about the Island Community Chorus since it first began performing in 1996. Here are links to several of them:

Listen to WMVY’s recent interview of Bill Peek on “The Vineyard Current” with Perry Dripps. The show includes the conversation with Bill, as well as recordings of “Five Sided S’vivon” (Part 1 – Dec. 17, 2023) and most of the songs from our winter concert (Part 2 – Dec. 24, 2023).

The MV Times interviewed Peter Boak in 2020 about his impending retirement as director of the Chorus. You can read the article HERE.

In November 2018, the Chorus received a grant from Choral Arts New England which allowed us to purchase, as part of a consortium, a cantata created by contemporary composer Thomas LaVoy. The writings of Nancy Luce, the “Chicken Lady” of West Tisbury and Martha’s Vineyard, were set to music by Mr. LaVoy. You can read the article from the MV Times HERE.

In 2016, the Chorus celebrated its 20th anniversary with a gift back to the community which has supported it so steadfastly over the years — two free performances of Johannes Brahms’ great choral work, the German Requiem. You can read coverage of the event, and the anniversary, in the Vineyard Gazette HERE and  the MV Times HERE

The Chorus’s 2015 spring concert, featuring works by Norwegian composer, Ola Gjeilo, won equally high praise from the Vineyard Gazette. You can read the review HERE

In April 2011, the Vineyard Gazette published this feature on the Chorus’s 15th anniversary performance of the great American musical, “The Music Man.”

The 2009 spring concert of the Island Community Chorus received this review from the Vineyard Gazette.

Both Island newspapers provided great coverage of our April 13, 2008 performance of Felix Mendelssohn’s oratorio, Elijah. Read what the Vineyard Gazette had to say HERE.
